Nearly $1 Million In Fraud Reported In Last Couple Months In Huron #Enough?

(HURON COUNTY, ON) The Huron Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a recent number of frauds in Huron County. Total loss from these recently reported frauds exceeds $943,000 in Canadian funds.
From August 30th to October 31st, 2025, Huron OPP received nine reports of significant fraud all over Huron County. In eight of these cases, victims believed that their money was being invested in the stock market and in cryptocurrency. One victim fell for a romance-type scam.
August 30th $130,000 lost 55-yr-old Central Huron resident,
August 31st $52,000 lost 67-yr-old Bluewater resident,
September 9th $88,500 lost 68-yr-old Bluewater resident,
September 20th $401,000 lost 76-yr-old South Huron resident,
September 22nd $74,000 lost 69-yr-old South Huron resident,
September 22nd $72,600 lost 85-yr-old North Huron resident,
October 1st $10,000 lost 64-yr-old North Huron resident,
October 30th $80,000 lost 80-yr-old Central Huron resident (Romance Scam),
October 31st $35,000 lost 70-yr-old Central Huron resident.
In the first nine months of 2025, nationwide, there have been over 23,000 fraud victims that have reported their losses to the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre. These losses total over $544 million.
In 2024, according to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), fraud reports totalled a staggering $647 million in Canadian victim losses.
NOTE: It is estimated that only 5-10% of victims report scams and frauds to the CAFC or law enforcement.
How to protect yourself?
Dont give out your personal information (name, address, DOB, SIN, banking credentials).
Dont accept friend requests from people you do not know.
Dont invest your money in platforms provided by people you dont know.
Be careful who you share images with. Suspects will often use explicit pictures to extort victims into sending more money.
Protect your online accounts.
Get more than one quote for home repair work and never feel pressured.
Never send money to someone you havent met.
Dont respond to text messages from phone numbers you do not recognize.
