(BROCKTON, ON) – On December 23, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle collision along Bruce Road 4, Municipality of Brockton.
On arrival, officers located a single vehicle in the ditch. The investigating officer determined that the occupants were in contravention of release conditions. Two individuals were taken into custody without issue. Police seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), and ammunition.
Michael BENNINGER, 36-years-old, of Barrie was charged with:
Possession of a firearm / ammunition contrary to prohibition order (x4), CC 117.01(1)
Failure to comply with undertaking, CC 145(4)(a)
Carry concealed prohibited device or ammunition, CC 90
Unauthorized possession of a weapon, CC 91(2)
Possession of a schedule I substance, CDSA 4(1)
Careless driving, HTA 130(1)
Driving while under suspension, HTA 53(1)
The accused was held for a bail hearing on December 24, 2024 and subsequently remanded into custody.
Zaid AL-MASHNI, 27-years-old, of Barrie was charged with:
Failure to comply with undertaking, CC 145(4)(a)
The accused is set to appear at the Walkerton Court of Justice on January 22, 2024.
