(CAVAN-MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a tip from a concerned motorist.

On Saturday June 8, 2024, just prior to 8:30pm, Peterborough County OPP received a call advising that a vehicle that had just entered on to Highway 115 may be being operated by an impaired driver. A description of the vehicle was provided, and officers began to look for it. Shortly after, a second call was received from a concerned motorist describing the same vehicle. The caller described their driving as being unable to maintain their lane and their speeds being inconsistent. The caller remained on the line and behind the vehicle at a safe distance while officers made their way to the location.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Officers approached the vehicle and quickly observed signs of impairment from the driver. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further tests.

Andrew CAHILL (age 48) of Ajax, ON, was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired

Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 9, 2024.
