19 Year Old Facing Facing First Degree Murder Charge

(ORILLIA, ON) - On November 19, 2020, approximately 8:22 p.m., a member of the public located a male with serious injuries laying on Coldwater Road, near Emily Street, Orillia. Members of the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) attended to find the male suffering from serious trauma. The 34 year old male, from Orillia, was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
As a result, a homicide investigation is being conducted by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). The deceased has been identified as Derek SIMMERSON, age 34, from Orillia.
On Sunday, November 22, 2020, shortly after 11:00 a.m., members of the Orillia detachment of the OPP arrested a male in relation to this investigation. As a result, Justice SNACHE, age 19, of Severn Township, has been charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused has been held for a bail hearing and is set to appear on November 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
